A Sustainable Lounge: The Doeloe Lounge Chair by Abie Abdillah

Its inspiring to see young designers making inventive, elegant furniture that is also sustainable. Abie Abdillah is an Indonesian furniture designer based out of Jakarta, who focuses on sustainable materials, especially rattan and other wood-like materials. The ‘doeloe lounge chair' and ‘pretzel bench' are two new pieces featured on Designboom, which utilized rattan in a way that reminds me of a modern take on wicker furniture. read more

Passad’s Easy Lounge

Here's my list of immediate observations upon first viewing Passad's Easy Lounge: 1. It bears a certain resemblance to Frank Gehry's Wiggle Chair; 2. it bears an even greater resemblance to Anthony Marschak's Spring Chair; 3. it reminds me of how self-supported (cantilevered, in this case) structures perpetually fulfill the modernist maxim "form follows function"; and 4. it's well-ventilated. read more

Scream! A Louder Eco-Chair by PIE Studio

There's something familiar about the conical shaped hanging piece on the Scream chair. Its tough to pinpoint right away, probably due to the materiality or the fact that its a piece of furniture and not an anatomical model. The name "Scream" should give it away, but for me, I had to read the product description before it clicked. read more
